Representing Students

Founded in 1942, the British Pharmaceutical Students' Association is in its 67th year and is the only national body that represents pharmacy students and preregistration trainees. We aim to promote the interests and welfare of pharmacy students and are the official student organisation of the Royal Pharmaceutical Society of Great Britain.

As well as represent pharmacy students, we aim to educate and entertain our members! We organise an impressive range of events and services throughout the year, so there is something for everyone to get involved in.

We have an executive which coordinate the running of all our events and services and they are supported by a network of BPSA National representatives which are in every school of pharmacy.

There are a number of ways we represent you

RPSGB/BPSA Liaison Meetings:
Twice a year members of the BPSA executive meet with the directors, senior staff and members of council of the Royal Pharmaceutical Society to update them on BPSA activities and latest BPSA policy developments. This is also an opportunity for BPSA to learn more about the developments in the pharmacy profession.

RPSGB Education Committee Meetings:
The BPSA president is a member of the RPSGB Education Committee, one of the four RPSGB policy implementation committees (Practice, Education, Law & Ethics and Science). The remit of the Education committee is to deal with all matters relating to pharmaceutical education delegated under the terms of the Society's Byelaws and to implement the Council's policies in the fields of education and training.

RPSGB Branch Representatives Meeting:
As the official student organisation of the RPSGB with branch status we are able to attend the meeting of the branch representatives and put forward BPSA policy decided by students.

RPSGB Research Projects:
The BPSA president sits on a steering group of the Pharmacy Practice Research Group overseeing research into the area of pharmacy education and careers.

Attending important events in the Pharmacy Calendar:
We attend various events in the pharmacy calendar such as the British Pharmaceutical Conference, events organised by the Academic Pharmacists Group (APG), Academy of Pharmaceutical Sciences (APS), Young Pharmacists' Group (YPG) etc representing your views and BPSA policy.

Policy Statements:
Policy Statements decided by members at Annual Conference go to various bodies. We work with EPSA, IPSF, RPSGB, NPA, PDA, Department of Health and many more to voice your views.

Writing:
We write in the pharmacy press, for example publications such as C&D, PJ.
