The Royal Pharmaceutical Society of Great Britain (RPSGB) is the professional and regulatory body for pharmacists in England, Scotland and Wales. It also regulates pharmacy technicians on a voluntary basis, which is expected to become statutory under anticipated legislation.

The Government White Paper 'Trust, assurance and safety: the regulation of health professionals in the 21st century' stated that regulation should be separate from the professional body (PLB) in the pharmacy profession, bringing it in line with other health professions. This demerger is due to happen in 2010.

The General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC) will replace the Royal Pharmaceutical Society of Great Britain as the regulator for pharmacists, pharmacy technicians and pharmacy premises from spring 2010, parliamentary timetable permitting.

The European Pharmaceutical Students' Association (EPSA) represents over 120,000 pharmacy students in 32 European countries. The objective of EPSA is "To develop the interests and opinions of European Pharmacy Students' and to encourage contact and co-operation between them".

Pharmacist Support 

Pharmacist Support is an organisation working for pharmacists and their families to provide help and support in times of need. The organisation offers valuable assistance to pharmacists from pharmacy students to pre-reg and right through to retirement. It provides a lifeline for those who, through circumstances often beyond their control – personal illness, disability or other life changing events - have required much needed help and assistance. This has been provided in many formats specifically tailored to the individual’s circumstances and requirements and includes provision of financial assistance, advice, and emotional and practical support either on a short or long term basis dependent on need.

National Association of Women Pharmacists

The National Association of Women Pharmacists (NAWP) is an independent organisation within the profession in the UK and represents women in pharmacy. Its mission is to enable all women pharmacists to realise their full potential and raise their profile by being educationally, socially and politically active.  Branches hold informal meetings with guest speakers covering a variety of subjects. Some Branches also provide successful and informal networking and mentoring and may organise locum work in their area.  Membership is open to all pharmacists and pharmacy students, regardless of age, race or gender.

The Industrial Pharmacists Group

The Industrial Pharmacists Group is a special interest group of the RPSGB. They are a useful source of information for students considering a career in the pharmaceutical industry and also publish a list of sites which offer summer placements for pharmacy undergraduates.

Chemist+Druggist has supported community pharmacists for nearly 150 years since its launch in 1859.
