Student Exchange Programme Memories #USA

Participating in the Student Exchange Programme (SEP) has been the best decision that I ever have made. Last summer, I travelled to the United States for my Student Exchange Programme. I was offered a 3-week pharmacy placement based in the University of Southern California (USC), Los Angeles. The local exchange officer did a fantastic job arranging my placements alongside with social activities.

I spent most of my time in an independent community pharmacy in Temple City. I was amazed by how the pharmacy utilizes technology to automate the process of medication dispensing. It was an astonishing experience when I realized how pharmacy systems and policy vary from country to country. Also, I had the opportunity to perform some hands-on tasks such as packing medications and answering phone calls under the supervision of the whole pharmacy team.

Besides that, I had a one-day visit at the USC Verdugo Hospital. I was welcomed by the pharmacist, Dr Adamcyzk and her pharmacy team at the inpatient pharmacy. Dr Adamcyzk spent most of her time with me, patiently explaining the daily operation of hospital pharmacy in the US. I was lucky enough to join the morning ward rounds with different healthcare professionals.

I enjoyed more than just the placement. I met amazing people and made friends from different countries, got to explore the beauty of San Francisco, San Diego and Las Vegas through trips with them. Last but not least, the Student Exchange Programme, was indeed one of the most unforgettable experience in twenty-two years of my life.
